Setting the Scene for Our Next “Defining MomentN

Paul Bannister, acting CEO of the International Marketing Council opened the 2010 NCP  Conference with a “scene-setting” background.

The world remembers defining moments. Usain Bolt’s record last night was such a defining moment. So was Obama’s win in the USA. South Africa’s biggest defining moment to date was 27 April 1994, our first democratic election. Our next defining moment will be 11 June 2010, the start of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Training Camp for Communicators

We as communicators are here today as part of a “training camp” where we will agree how to approach the communication around the 2010 FIFA World Cup and to agree how to approach those moments of truth for the anticipated 1,5 million arrivals in South Africa. Whether that defining moment is the arrival at a SA airport, first bus or taxi trip, first hotel check in or first cappuccino or even cell phone experience.

Today we need to discuss Football Friday, as initiated by Gavin Wood of Southern Sun, we need to start learning the national anthem, the WHOLE anthem and get lessons on how to do the Diski dance.

At the end of the day we should have a clear strategy on how to approach our joint communication going forward.DSC01512

  1. 1. Me Wendy Tlou, i second your statement – the only woman in a man dominated panel, nogal during womens month. was this an oversight from tjhe organisers or from GCIS site?
    2. can the host cities start to work close with non-host cities( why) non-host cities might not have the infrastrucure -stadium but might have the expertise, experienced people and the knowledge to impart.
    3. after all we are all South AFricans and we want to contribute meaningfully and be part of the prepartions not only in the boardroom and towards the final stage we are left out in the cold like it happened with 2009 CONFEDERATION Cup.
